Market Place saves me from having to make full-day grocery journeys off-island to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's so for that I'd give them ten stars if I could. Their vegan, organic, etc selection is surprisingly expansive as well as reasonably priced and their bulk bin section is so well-organized. Veggies always look great and are high quality. It's nice having locally grown sprouts and mixed greens available as well. They even have some lovely locally produced soaps, salt, and other items if you're looking for good gifts. Employees are friendly and helpful, check-out lines usually move pretty quickly, most of the time there is ample parking, and the restrooms are clean.

Great store, great selection. Their vegan and other health food choice section is expansive - try the Banana Milk for smoothies! Be advised: Yelp hours say Sunday 10-6 but they are actually closed on Sundays.

Best sandwiches!! My picky kid loved their marbled bread with ham and cheese so much we went back the next day and got another one. They have a wonderful hot food selection with such aromatic soups and tasty nibbles. In addition to the sandwiches, we got breakfast scrambled eggs with veggies, bacon and potatoes!! Yum.

Following Google maps, this was easy to find. This well stocked market had just about everything a market could offer except a fresh fish, a deli counter and a fresh bakery department. We bought enough fresh fruits, vegetables and wine to last a few nights at our resort. Prices were slightly higher then the mainland, but not a major difference. Staff were very helpful.

Yelp has never been so right! On my third trip to Friday Harbor, I noticed the yelp reviews for this grocery store and decided to try it. I'm so glad I did! As other yelpers said, this is the nicest, biggest, and cheapest grocery store on the island. It's a little off the beaten track (which isn't far in a tiny town); I got "lost" for 3 minutes on my way when Google maps tried to take me down a road with a chain across it that said fire-access only. But if this happens to you, persist! This is a large and inexpensive grocery store, but it also boasts the widest selection of organic produce and biggest selection of natural foods I've seen in a decade, even in large cities. There's a great range of both high and low-end prices, and a great selection of speciality vegetarian items, too. Highly recommended!! Huge tip: there's no fresh seafood here! Why, I inquired, does such a large store not have something fresh? I was told that's because King's Market, right on the main drag, has the fresh stuff. While some yelpers saw that store as competition, they're owned by the same people and try to balance each other out. Good thinking!

Wouldn't have found out about this grocery store if I did not see it on Google map for the island. The buiding has no sign! It was literally a stone's throw away from our rental and quite large for island size . The grocery is clean and complete except for a deli/prepared food section. Lots of fruit and produce selections. Prices are decent and staff are friendly. Lots of parking, too!

This is where the local's shop. Just a huge american grocery store. Prices reasonable, especially the sale items. Huge parking lot, just about 5 minute walk out of town.

I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself, but this is a completely unmarked grocery store less than a mile away from King's Market! The prices are generally lower then at King's Market and they offer cheaper brands like Western Family. If you're getting standard grocery-type fare, definitely hit up this grocery store. The drawback is that there is no prepared food section. Where Kings Market has an amazing deli case with scrumptious salads, hot dishes, and soups, Market Place doesn't have any hot food or case deli meats at all. Your best bet is the frozen food section.

Everyone visiting the San Juan's knows there is an overpriced grocery store on the main drag off the ferry terminal in Friday Harbor called King's Market. After being price gouged even for simple items there, most just eat out. What they don't tell you is that there is an unlisted grocery store on the Island called Friday Harbor Market Place. The building is large, and if you look at it on Google Map, you'll recognize a grocery store layout, but they are not listed on any website, Yelp, or Google. The place says that they don't advertise, and don't even have a sign, because all the locals know where the place is, and they want to keep the tourists going to the King's Market in town. Ostensibly this is to jack up the prices. They are owned by the same company as the King's Market. The reason this place gets a four is that they have insanely good prices (i.e. normal grocery store prices) and are the cheapest option on the island if you are there for a longer trip. I also want them to have a good review so more tourists can take advantage. That said, I think its pretty lame that they would use such a manipulative strategy. So, my fellow San Juan Island visitors, show them whose boss and spread the word about this place.
